How to Get a Bombshell Blowout at Home (Even in Indian Humidity)

Two weeks after the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Los Angeles, the clothes have faded from the feed. The hair hasn’t. The bombshell blowout, that big, bouncy, brushed-out volume the Angels are famous for, is everywhere again. Indy100 reported an 87 per cent jump in Google searches for the look in the days after the October 18 show. Social analytics site Convosight counted 10.9 million views on bombshell blowout videos from just over 300 creators between October 18 and 30.

Most of those tutorials are filmed in dry, air-conditioned American bathrooms, though. So here’s the version for the rest of us: how to get a bombshell blowout at home in India, on thick or wavy hair, in weather that wants to undo it by lunch.

What makes it a “bombshell” blowout

It isn’t just curls. A bombshell blowout has three things going on at once:

  • Lift at the root, so the hair sits high off the scalp.
  • Big, loose bends through the lengths, not tight ringlets.
  • Movement. It’s brushed out, so it swings and falls back into place.

This year’s runway had one more detail worth copying. Harper’s Bazaar noticed that more than a dozen models wore deep side parts, the kind every millennial wore in the 2000s. Hairstylist Guido Palau’s team set models like Barbara Palvin in rollers for hours before the show. That’s the real secret. The volume comes from setting the hair, not from piling on product.

How to get a bombshell blowout at home

You need a blow dryer with a concentrator nozzle, a large round brush, a set of big Velcro rollers (or self-grip rollers), a few clips, a heat protectant, and a light hairspray. All of it is easy to find in Indian pharmacies and on Nykaa or Amazon, usually for a lot less than one salon blowout.

Step 1: Start with almost-dry hair

Wash, condition, and let your hair air-dry to about 70 per cent. Blasting soaking wet hair with heat for twenty minutes is how you get frizz and damage. Spray heat protectant through the lengths before you touch the dryer.

Step 2: Dry the roots up, not down

Flip your part to the side you want, then dry the roots by pulling each section straight up from the scalp. This one move does more for volume than any mousse.

Step 3: Round brush in big sections

Work in sections about the width of your brush. Wrap the hair around the brush, follow it with the dryer pointed down the hair shaft (this keeps the cuticle flat and shiny), and roll the brush away from your face at the ends.

Step 4: Roll it while it’s warm

Here’s the part most people skip. As each section comes off the brush, still warm, wind it straight onto a Velcro roller and pin it. Hair sets as it cools. If you let it cool flat, you lose the shape you just made.

Step 5: Wait. Longer than you want to.

Leave the rollers in for at least 20 to 30 minutes, until your hair is completely cool. Do your makeup. Answer your messages. The Angels sat in rollers for hours. You don’t have to, but ten minutes won’t cut it.

Step 6: Take them out and brush

Unroll gently, then run your fingers, and finally a paddle brush, through the curls. It’ll look too big for about a minute. That’s correct. Flip a few pieces across your deep side part and you’re done.

The India problem: humidity

Any blowout in Mumbai or Chennai fights moisture in the air. Humid air makes hair swell and frizz, and the curl drops. A few things help:

  • Dry fully. Even slightly damp roots will frizz the second you step outside. Go over the scalp one last time with cool air.
  • Finish with cool air on each section. It locks the shape in.
  • Try “hair sandwiching”. This TikTok trick, covered by Bustle, has you spray a little hairspray into your palms, add a drop or two of hair oil, rub them together and scrunch it through the mid-lengths and ends. You get hold without the crunchy feel. Use less oil on fine hair.
  • Keep it in for a night. On day two, loosely twist your hair into a high bun or a few big pin curls before bed. Shake it out in the morning.

If your hair is naturally wavy or curly, the brush step takes longer, but the result often lasts better, since your hair already has texture to hold the shape.

Is a bombshell blowout right for you?

It works best on hair that’s at least shoulder length. Shorter cuts can do a version of it with smaller rollers. It also suits long layers more than a blunt one-length cut, because layers give each section somewhere to fall.

It’s not an everyday style, though, and that’s fine. This is a weddings, parties and Diwali-dinner look. Wear it with something simple, a black dress or a crisp shirt, and let the hair do the talking. (If you’re stuck on what to pair it with, our piece on the black dress is a fun read.)

Our take

We love that this trend is about patience rather than a new gadget. The hair world keeps selling us air-stylers and heated brushes that promise salon results in five minutes. The bombshell blowout is a reminder that old-school rollers and a bit of time still beat most of them. It’s cheap, it’s kind to your hair if you use heat protection, and the deep side part is a lot more flattering than Gen Z ever admitted.

Give yourself a Saturday morning to practise. The first try is always messy. By the third, you’ll have it.

FAQ

How long does a bombshell blowout last?

Usually one to two days. In humid weather, expect the curl to drop faster. Re-twisting it into a bun overnight helps it last into day two.

Can I get a bombshell blowout without heat?

You can get a softer version. Set damp (not wet) hair in large rollers or heatless curl rods overnight, then brush out in the morning. It won’t have quite as much lift at the root.

Does a bombshell blowout work on Indian hair?

Yes. Thick, wavy Indian hair often holds the style better than fine, straight hair. Just dry it fully, use heat protectant, and finish each section with cool air to fight humidity.
